Kool & the Gang helps raise money for Camp Hometown Heroes. It was a flashback to the 1970s last weekend at the Wisconsin Center as the legendary band Kool & the Gang helped raise more than $100,000 for Camp Hometown Heroes at the fifth annual Grand Slam Charity Jam. Check out the attached slideshow to see photos of the popular event.
More than 800 Milwaukee-area business executives attended the fundraiser at the downtown Milwaukee convention center. It raised money for Camp Hometown Heroes, a free week-long camp in Wisconsin for children who lost a parent or sibling through service in the U.S. military.
The highlight of the evening was the hour-long concert by Kool & the Gang, which featured many of the group’s hits, including “Celebration” and “Ladies Night.”
Chellee Siewert, a spokesperson for the event, said it raised $165,000, the most in its five-year history.
The event was put on by Kapco Metal Stamping and supported by other Milwaukee-area businesses, including Gruber Law Offices LLC, Reiman Foundation Inc., Aurora Health Care and the Brewers Community Foundation.
